I have seen quite a few comments about how the Pure I-20 internal dac i.e. its analog output sounds as good as some well known and popular external dacs that cost far more than the I-20. However, I dont see any specific comments comparing the Ipod's line out (NOT headphone out) to the I-20. Is it a siginificant different in sound quality ? or no difference at all ?
If anyone can share any comments on this it would be highly appreciated!

Welcome to AC, sorry it took so long to approve your post, I was taken out for my birthday by coworkers and arrived home in a state of disrepair late last night so didn't get to checking the site till this AM.  One more post and you'll be cleared from the spam protection restrictions.

I don't find a huge difference between the LOD on the iPod and the analog outs on the PURE, but when you use the DIGITAL output on the PURE and send it to a DAC, with lossless files there is a clear improvement to my ears. I have a pricey LOD cable from ALO audio that sounds really quite nice when I use just my iPod as a source. It's not bad at all....much better than if I use a mini-to-RCA cable from the headphone out jack on the iPod. But yeah, the PURE is worth it's weight in gold IMO...it's nice that it has the analog outs available, but the digital out to a quality DAC is a step  up.

Thanks for the feedback. I will read that thread in detail. I see some references to the MF DAC right off the bat in that thread so thats good as I was seriously considering purchasing that dac and thus hoping for a direct comparison.
