I want to thank all you so far for all your responses and a warm welcome!  I just want to make sure that what I decide on, will be the right choice.  I wish there was a local HiFi store close to me so I could possible demo several preamps in my system before I buy one, but I'm not that lucky.....

For some reason I feel I want a preamp that utilizes 6SN7 tubes, not sure exactly why.  I did check out the Dehavilland Ultra-verve that Ericus Rex suggested, it has some great reviews and offers a remote which I'd like to have.

Please keep your suggestions coming, my goal is to make a decision in the next couple weeks so I can buy myself a Xmas present!!!

Thanks again!
Randy

Is it near Reston?

Sorry, I've never been to Virginia so I'm not sure.

PM sent.

P.S. there is a version of the Moebius that uses in the 6SN7, it just doesn't have as much drive for SS amps and likely has a lot more gain.  Its in that thread.

FWIW, I love the 6SN7 tube, but I am not sure its the best tube for a preamp in modern CD based systems.

If it were me, I'd seriously have a look at this pre.  Lots of positive reviews.  Some at their site.

Look for a used Supratek. I like the Cabernet Dual. See review on 6 moons. Good Luck!

Do not rule out Nightshade Audio here at AC. Kaboom for the buck. Uses a 6SN7 and is reasonably priced. A money back guarantee as well.  If want to spend serious cash then a Dude, Miracle Audio preamp might tame the beast.

I'm steering towards the Modwright LS100, I like the option of having a headphone jack.
