Pure Vinyl Conversion
« on: 16 Oct 2012, 01:17 am »
I'm thinking about using Pure Vinyl, Lynx Hilo and some sort of Mic Pre to convert some vinyl to hi rez digital.  My question is what Mic Pre have you guys used so that Pure Vinyl can perform the RIAA correction rather then run the Phono Pre into the Dac?  The Channel D Seta is very nice but it's also $3800.  I'd rather try it with a less expensive Mic Pre that has good resale on the pro market then go with the Seta on something that I haven't tried and heard just yet.

It doesn't use Pure Vinyl, but I just bought the M2Tech Joplin...

Goes all the way up to 32/384(!) so going to give it a try.

I dunno the first thing about this except there are a lot of vinyl records that have never seen the light of a digital day.  How else is this music going to be preserved and appreciated?

I've been using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 firewire interface - which I bought on closeout for around $300 - the Mac interface to set it up is a little non-intuitive, but after getting everything set up it has worked great.  It seems to have good quality mic preamps for the money.

jtwrace I am using pure vinyl and tc impact twing with great results.
I would also like to know about the pure vinyl lynx hilo setup.
I am wondering if your really need mic preamps with lynx or a step up tranformer would do the trick.
I think you could ask Rob Robinson of Channel D....
Nikos

edit: just show that hilo has only line level input. Probably you need mic preamps...

Yes, either into the Hilo from the Phono stage or into the Hilo with a mic pre and let Pure Vinyl do the RIAA correction.
