Mine was a Dual 1229Q with a Stanton 681 EE in 1973. It had the tall cover with the fold back front allowing LP change without opening the whole cover.
The Stanton was so tall that fully cued it was barely above the vinyl.
My ex still has the table with a different cart I'm sure.

Shure SL 1500 with a Shure V15 III.  Circa 1976.  The tables still sell for about $90 on eBay.

JVC JL-A20 bought at Battling Barry's in Melville, NY (LI) when I was 13yo.

Semi-auto...great little machine....I always thought it was very handsome looking, too.  Sound improved hugely with about 7lbs of mortite caulking clay caked inside and (yeech looking!) out.  Yes, at age 15 I had a local dealer that had my clay'ing tables....35 years ago now :duh:

That was years before I learned about the much softer, more pliable modeling clay.  That rope caulk tore skin off it was so caustic after a couple hours of use.  Big yeah for plast-i-clay!

I did not purchase my first table until later in life. I decided not to start small, and go for something up the food chain a bit. A Galibier Design Gavia. I started with a Morch DP6 and a ZYX Airy III. Now I have a Tri-Planar and a Benz LP, not the S version.

My first turntable was in one of those cheap all-in-one systems with the tuner, cassette deck, turntable. I took the guts out of the system and determined that the turntable would work with out all the other crap. I used it like that through college. It didn't make one of my moves. I think the original make was RJM.
