Do DVD players transmit DVD-A through their coax output?

I know there are HDAD's that are 24/96kHz which play on any old DVD player (why haven't I heard more about these kinds of recordings? Is there a website with a list of all HDAD's?)

But what if I purchase a newer DVD player with DVD-A capabilities...will the 24/192kHz signal be transmitted via the coaxial digital output to my receiver? And does my receiver only need to be 24/192khz compatible for it to play it back? (I would assume so since it is just a higher rez PCM signal)

No. DVD-A and SACD are analog out only. You'll need to run 5-6 RCA ICs out to your receiver. Hopefully you have some kind of analog-bypass that will allow these signals to come in without being converted back to digital.

They're analog as dogberry mentioned.

Their are digital output options for DVD-A. But they're not coax, they're FireWire, HDMI, or some other proprietary method.

Hmmm...the digital output will pass a 24 bit signal. Keep in mind that's part of the standard DVD format. It won't pass the signal in digital form from an SACD or DVD-A disc, but that's not the only source for 24 bit music.

My Denon player does pass a 24 bit signal, but the only discs I've used this feature for were 24/96. I'm not sure if the coax will pass a 24/192 signal.

i just picked up a panasonic DMR-E55K dvd recorder that also plays DVD-audio discs in stereo.....

from my testing last night as well as reading the manual, i believe the unit downconverts the hi-res DVD-audio signal to pcm and does transmit it over the digital optical cable.....

at least there was no difference when i would switch back and forth from the analog input to the digital input on my receiver......

Isn't DVD-A just a PCM signal anyway?

I thought it was 24bit 192kHz PCM signal with multiple channels of audio.

you may be right about it being pcm.... but most DVD-audio discs also offer a stereo track to use in a two channel setup.....

and if it is pcm, it is not the same as redbook cd's or these discs would play on any cd player.... and we know that that doesn't work....

There's an encryption protocol on DVD-A discs. If you have 24/98 PCM discs (like a DAD or a DVD-R with 24/96 data, like the discs I make with Eximius' DVD+Audio software) a good player will pass the signal digitally. But I've used some cheap players that downconvert even this. It all depends on the player.

heavystarch--Classic records makes HDAD discs. I have Alan Parsons I Robot on HDAD and it sounds amazing. I can't seem to log on to their web site any more so try here http://store.commlinkstore.com/jx-s111.html
and do a search for Classic Records under labels.

The DAD Muddy Waters Folk Singer also sounds very good ,better than the SA-CD version that I also have.

My Cambridge Audio DVD-A player will pass a 24/192 signal digitally.
Classic Records discs are not copy protected so you can get the 24/192 stream. It will also pass DVD-A but like every other DVD-A player it down converts the signal.
