ARGO / Here Comes The Boom
« on: 15 Oct 2012, 02:45 am »
I'm going to see this movie Monday, not because I'm a big Ben Affleck fan  cuz I'm not. Fact is this movie has gotten one of the bigger Rotten Tomatoes ratings of late, a 94%.

Quote from Rotten Tomatoes:
Quote
Tense, exciting, and often darkly comic, Argo recreates a historical event with vivid attention to detail and finely wrought characters.

So I gotta see it with the hope that Affleck has gotten better with age. I think I'm actually starting to warm up to the guy as he was on the panel of last weeks Real Time With Bill Maher and he was actually quite articulate (unlike that headcase Ann Coulter).

I'll also be seeing Here Comes The Boom with Kevin James whom I really like. Didn't garner a good rating at 44% but it did get an 84% audience approval so it'll do as an afternoon filler flick. I always to a 2 movie matinee doubleheader,,,,just like the Drive-In's use to.  :thumb:

Cheers,
Robin

Affleck - good director, terrible actor.

Saw it and enjoyed it.  Agree Affleck easily replaced Richard Gere as my number actor that's painful to watch.  Affleck is a very good director but just a bland, sometimes depressing actor.  For me he almost ruined the film with his usual nothingness

I think both Ben Affleck and Keanu Reeves went to the Richard Gere school of acting. ;)

ARGO

Very well done movie that's chocked full of actual Iranian facts and a foreign policy which once again leaves me ashamed. :duh:  Definitely Ben Affleck is a good director but he's still a so-so actor. Despite Affleck, I still really enjoyed this flick. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Here Comes The Boom

I loved this movie despite a dumbed down storyline. I've always been a Henry Winkler fan along with Kevin James and I'm a big MMA/UFC fan so I took to this movie like peanutbutter on jam. Enough so that I was once again moved emotionally. Others I imagine will disagree and that's OK as I can understand why but for me, 4 out of 5 stars.

All in all,  wrap up another doubleheader afternoon.  :thumb:

Cheers,
Robin

I think Gere is better than both of them, and that's no endorsement of Gere.

I really liked Argo.  I found myself on the edge of my seat during the climactic escape attempt at the airport even though I knew how it would end!  It was a very well done film with a good cast.

Funny, I also went to see Here Comes the Boom.  I'm not a fan of Kevin James at all, nor is is the kind of film I usually see.  But I had the day off and was bored.  I felt like catching a movie and there was nothing else playing that interested me that I hadn't seen yet.  Despite being very predictable it was pretty decent.  I was actually surprised.  Cheesy but heartfelt.  Not great but a good popcorn flick.

I also really enjoyed this movie.  Filmed almost like a documentary with understated acting added to an almost real depiction of an event, except I know Affleck fudged some of the time line and fictionalized the airport scene.
