Replacing mid-range
« on: 19 Oct 2012, 07:02 pm »
My beloved VR-5 Anni got damaged during the transportation and I need to replace mid-range drivers. Any suggestions/instruction how to do it and where to get them? Would be nice to get the newest model of them, if old cross-over (mine are 2007 MKI) would permit for that. Thanks. Eric1951

Hey Eric..

I own the VR5 Annies as well and so sorry to hear about the damage.  That's gotta hurt.  If I were you those puppies would be headed back to Albert for the full upgrade: cabinet deadening via addition of the faux stone slabs; upgrade of the midrange drivers; internal wiring and...as I recall...tweaking of the crossovers.  Do it!  :thumb:

They have replacement drivers at the factory. It's just a matter of ordering them. One thing though. VSA doesn't just screw the drivers on. The drivers are actually held in place by a clay like substance. They will likely supply this as well. The tricky part is getting the drivers off. You'll need a tool to hook them out. Be nice to Damon he might send you one too. It's basically a flat head screw driver ground into a hook with a dremel. Unscrew the driver, yank them off carefully, cut the wires, clean off all the old secret clay like thing, solder on the new driver, line the baffle with the clay, fit the driver in and put in the screws until pretty tight but not to the point where the clay starts to come out. Voila! :D

Eric,

I too own a pair of the VR-5 Anniversaries, they are currently back at the VSA factory being upgraded to the MKII's. So sorry to hear about the damage. If you can, I would send them back to VSA for the upgrade. For those who have had the upgrade, they say it is well worth it.  :thumb: Keep us informed of your progress.
