GK-1 experience
« on: 10 Jun 2004, 08:07 am »
I'm an italian AKSA55W owner,I write in this forum for the first time.
I know the AKSA and the ASPEN amplifiers only one year ago and I love immediatly yours philosophy and yours products,so I bought an AKSA 55W kit.Today I'm very happy with my AKSA ,it is the best amplifier I have never listen, and now I would like to buy the GK-1 preamplifier, could anyone explain me the sonic characteristics of this?
I have only the cd-player ,CEC cd3300 a very good sounding player,follow by a diy preamplifier,the TNT Preamble,fet single-ended,and I want replace it with the GK-1.

Thank you

Paolo

Hello Paolo,

Welcome to the forum!

If you search a bit on the forum you will find a number of accounts about the GK-1. There is also something on the Aspen website.

A short description of the GK-1 sound would be something like this:

- Neutral and highly transparent
- Very good bass control
- Exceptional soundstage/depth of image
- Very, very musical presentation

A GK-1R owner myself, I am having problems getting the enclosure finished because I don't like to take the GK-1R out of my system

Cheers,

AKSA

Paolo,

Welcome to our AKSA forum!  You will find lots of AKSA owners here very happy to discuss their gear, and it's another place to get technical help from me and from others.

The GK1 adds 'humanity' to the music, making it easy to believe the performer is in the room with you.  It's hard to explain it in any other words.

Ciao,

Hugh

Hi, Paolo,

You said "... AKSA, it is the best amplifier I have never listened to".

Well, possibly you haven't listened to a pair of US$20K monoblocks ... so, conceivably, they MIGHT be even better ... agreed?  But if you haven't got US$40K to spend, then the AKSA is definitely the next best thing!!

Similarly with the GK-1 ... you will marvel at the sound which your system is producing, once you have a GK-1 complementing an AKSA.  Then the next thing is to buy more AKSAs, upgrade them all to N+ status and drive your speakers actively!

Regards,

Andy

Hi Jens, hello Hugh thank you for your response,it's a pleasure for me to write in this forum and meet new friend all around the world.
I like much the sound clean neutral and transparent as you describe,Jens,so all my listen gear have this characteristics.
I have bought the AKSA in Februry 2004,do you remember HUGH?and I promise you to buy the GK-1 on September for my birthday, but I can't wait this time.I would to like to buy the EL version because I have only the
cd-player,can I upgrade in a second time to the M or R version?
Another question is about the GK-1,is it studied and set to work with AKSA55?

HI Andy ,the best i have never listened,of course!!!!!
I think to upgrade my AKSA to Nirvana Plus, but I think it is more important now to insert before the GK-1 im my gear and then to upgrade the AKSA.
Whath do you think about? It is the right choice? do you have made or listen this upgrade?

ciao Paolo

Hi, Paolo,

Yes, I think I agree with you.  Replacing your other preamp with the GK-1 will give you a larger step towards "audio heaven" than changing a standard AKSA 55 to N+.

Have I listened to the N+? ... yes, I have!   :D   My AKSAs (3 of them) in my main system are almost at N+ ... I have to change the power supply caps to get the complete N+ upgrade, so that is something planned for the remainder of 2004.

Good luck with the GK-1!

Regards,

Andy
