I recently purchased a new T7 SLR.  Has anyone had success "tweaking" this preamp to get even better performance (tube rolling, tube dampers, panda feet, etc.).  Thanks for your time and feedback.

Hi,

I put NOS Mullards from Upscale Audio in and I also used Pandafeet.  Both improved things significantly.

You could probably also try to dampen the chasis.

This is a very good preamp that can be made even better quite easily and relatively cheaply.

Hi George,

You tried Cromalloy strips in your (my) T7 -- Did you find it made a difference? Was there a particular problem you were trying to address?  Looking for a more tubey sound? Did you find it made a difference?

Yes, I did find that the Cromolin made a difference.

I think you can get the same results cheaper by going with  Dynamat off of Ebay.

In both cases, by getting rid or lowering the amount of vibration in the chasis (especially when tubes are involved) you will hear better detail, get tighter bass, and have more clarity and refinement in the sound.

YMMV of course, but this is what I have found from my experiences.

I recommend Herbie's tube dampers. Made an immediate significant improvement in focus

I tried Herbie's and thought it negatively impacted the sound.  The music became more sterile and the size of the music shrunk.

YMMV.

Interesting.  I currently have Herbies on the Tungrams in the phono section.  I'll try them again with them off.  (that is, when I can muster the time and energy to remove/replace  those 16 case screws a couple of times  :)

And, I don't feel a pressing need.  Right now, the phono is sounding darn good.  Lots of "PRaT"

Your Mileage May Vary

As you can see from DVB's comments, they do vary (especially since that was the exact unit I tried the tube dampners in).
