Need help with Cartridge Loading
« on: 9 Oct 2012, 07:56 pm »
I could use suggestions with cartridge loading. I have a Benz Micro Low output Glider in a Clearaudio Performance TT. My phono pre amp is a Nova Phenomena which affords many loadings. Does lesser loading, like 150 ohms, smooth out the terble or should I be using  higher, like 2000 ohm loading? Does lower or higher loading affect resolution or bass reproduction?  The Phenomena offers up to 100k loading.
The manufacturer is very ambiguous about this subject. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as well as educational.

  Thanks.  John

I think Glider recommended loading is 200 ohms.  Lower typically smooths out the sound and higher gets more "brittle."  Play around with the setting to find what you like.  LOMC typically loads in the hundreds and not in the thousands and tens are not unheard of.  Some swear by 47k like MM but I am not one of them.
