Center Image Problem, Need Help
« on: 11 Jun 2004, 03:41 pm »
Hi,

When I listen to my Van Alstine based system, I notice that the center image, vocals and such is shifted left about 6 inches.  I believe I have a slight hearing loss in my right ear and my assumption is that this is the cause.  Is using the balance knob, 2 clicks right in my case, the best way to remedy this?  By doing that is there anything that I am sacrificing in terms of musical reproduction quality?  I don't beleive it's the equipment because Frank tests everything thoroughly before it goes out the door with scopes and such.  (excuse my ignorance on some of this)  I thought too that it might be partially room related, not all being acoustically equal in my room.  Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

This is fairly typical in assymmetrical rooms.  If your speakers are not centered between the sidewalls, then this can happen.  Often , you must toe-in one speaker more than the other, usually the one that is closest to the sidewall.

Sitting slightly off center can also help, just a couple of inches.
