I have all three remasted albums and, IMO, they are worth having. I believe WYWH & the Wall are better than DSOTM, WYWH is really a terrific sounding LP.

Only if you don't have originals in good shape. None of the new ones sound as good as the original pressings, sorry to rain on your parade...

I would rank them MoFi, tie between 30th anniversary and original and then the new remastered. With WYWH, the new remastered version sounds better than the original. With The Wall, it is pretty equal, but I slightly prefer the new remastered version.

Really? I don't know what you are listening thru, but firstly, a digitally remastered vinyl is a joke to begin with. Secondly, both DSOTM you mension are not the best. I have 10 different onesa, and 30th an. is near the bottom, and MoFi is midway. I have 7 WYWH, all analog, and even lowly US 3d press outperforms the new reissue handily. But if you like it, that is fine. It was described on many forums as overly dry, anemic, dinamically weak, flat sounding etc, and basically just as good as the CD version. I bought it because I wanted to hear for myself. I will keep it because of packaging. But I listen to my old ones, where the undisputed king is the UK early press

I will save you the trouble of looking up my system--SME 20/2; SME IV.Vi tonearm and Lyra Skala cartridge; ModWright KWA 150SE amp, Art Audio Vinyl Reference PS; Gill Audio Design Alana pre; Daedalus 1.1 with All Poly XO and 2 Daedalus BOW powered by a Bryston 4B ST. A very revealing and tonally accurate system.

I have a problem with most difitally RE- mastered LPs, as opposed to modern digitally Mastered LPs. Even though most of them also leave a lot to be desired. Double conversion process ( first A/D, then D/A), involved in every digital re-mastering, deteriorates sound, IMHO, akin to second and third generation analogue tapes. I had a big problem with 2009 Beatles re-mastered CDs, they were doctored a lot


I ve started a thread whether anybody agreed with me that 2011 Pink Floyd vinyl reissues were only so-so, and most agreed. The effects of double-digital conversion are readily apparent. I've also found info on what equipment this remastering was done on, and I wasn't impressed by that either, especially by the fact that the engineer "chose the converters to sound as close to original master as possible". In his opinion. If you want to get an idea of the quality if the original master, listen to the small bits and pieces of WYWH from the DVD about making of WYWH (I forget the exact title now, but I have it and can look it up later). Glimpses of Nirvava, fed directly from the mixing console. Since we are limited to a mere approximation of the original master, i try to chose what is closer to it. Having worked in a studio, i have an idea. Other than that, we'll agree to disagree

Though my system is nowhere near the level of either of yours, i have to agree that the wywh is pretty good. at times i really like the wall reissue but if the bass to be a little too wooly or overripe.

I am going to have my bundle delivered tomorrow.
Has anyone received theirs yet? How does it sound? I'm excited to get mine.
My TT in nowhere state of the art, I just want to have  a lot of fun with spinning pristine vinyl.

I did not buy the bundle but I have WYWH and DSOTM, both editions included in the bundle. I like them both. I'll just keep it simple at that.

The problem I have with getting better copies is that I would be searching for the original British imports. And for DSOTM I'd have to reread the Fremer article about whether I need the hollow or solid prism on the actual record label. Too much work right now! I'll keep my eyes peeled on the next European junket. Meanwhile, my oldest daughter was beside herself when I regifted my oft-played US copies of both!

I hope everybody that ordered this gets it and enjoys it - it was, alas, not meant to be for me....

RANT MODE ON:

I ordered this and was looking forward to it.

On the morning of the 19th, I came back into the house to find a message from our credit card fraud division asking that we contact them. I immediately contacted my wife to see if she had anything pending on the card, and we then had a conference call with CC Fraud. They said that there had been a "suspicious" charge on our card that morning, and they had therefore cancelled the charge. 

Sure enough, I glanced through my emails and found one from myplaydirect saying that they had charged my CC, but it had been declined and therefore the order had been cancelled. 

I advised CC fraud that the charge was authorized by me and it was valid. They weren't very responsive - only saying that we had never purchased anything from this company before. - Ummmm, we purchase stuff from "new" (different) companies all the time. They said that they would add this vendor to the "approved" list, and gave a very weak apology.

I tried to contact Sony/myplaydirect, and was eventually advised that there was nothing that I could do. 

Oh well.... I will have to look for another deal or pay a higher price.
