New ceiling grid mount diffusers!
« on: 22 Jan 2012, 03:47 am »
Hello all, I have added a new design to my catalog, a baby brother of my ceiling grid grandaddy of 'em all (Hill Top Studio, Nashville)  This guy is light, affordable, and high performance!

Very nice, Allen, and versatile being that it can be ceiling or wall mounted.  And Prime 23 is very a very high number for a small QRD!

My question on the ceiling mount is should the "fins" align with the listener or be perpendicular to the listener when ceiling mounted?

John

P.S. I recently moved and spent a month without my Prime 37 diffusor installed...then put it up on the "near" side wall and wow, the clarity and detail that I had become used to came back.  Proof indeed that your diffusors work!

I second the orientation question and raise some more; if enamel is acceptable paint, what is the diffuser material?

Box of 4 for $199?  What are the exact outside dimensions for those of us w/o ceiling grids?  Are they hollow?

Hi John,
To answer your question, common wisdom including those of Schroeder himself have the channels aligned with the sound, that is to say front to rear for the sound to travel through.  This puts the broad horizontal diffusion side to side and the tight vertical parallel with the front and back walls.  When I have painted them I have used "Kilz All" primer for the first coat, then any latex or enamel for the finish.  The back of John's is finished with heavy duty black enamel usually used for wrought iron fences.  It is very tough, but takes two days to totally dry!  Rob in West Virginia has a large diffuser that is painted with latex.  Check out his gallery to see the results.  The material is solid high density polystyrene.  It is cut from solid blocks with an accuracy of .001" over the whole surface.  I think it is impossible to achieve that accuracy with glued together pieces.  The dimensions are 2 ft wide by 23.5" by 6.5" total  I have tested it in both 2 foot grid and 2X4 foot grid.

Yes, I am selling them 4 to a box at $199.00 plus shipping (great rates negotiated with FedEx ground)!  I love high performance audio and acoustics, and these are a striking product at a reasonable cost....

Steve, seeing how this ad of yours is now being presented on the front page, wouldn't it be a good idea to either update the nonfunctional product link in your 1st post or discontinue this sales thread if neccessary? Anyone like myself who was curious to see what this diffuser looks like would be highly disappointed to find a discontinued product link. Thanks.

Cheers,
Robin
