Asking James Tanner: On my Bryston 4B-SST2 anp, with the plastic covering on the speaker terminals. Can those terminals be loosened a little and rotated to be open end facing down, instead of up?

Making the assumption they are held with one nut, and the thing is held via a pin, or some sort of depression to stay in correct vertical position.
Does that preclude rotating 180? (They can only be installed in exact position shipped from factory.)
Or, they can be loosened and rotated to downward facing?

I do not want to damage them in any way. but if they can be rotated, i would do so.

Big Red Machine

Similar to the ones found on Wyred amps.  They are keyed but with some surgery you could remove the shield or rotate the jack.  I hate those plastic covers!!  I replaced those units on my Wyred amps with some Parts Express units so I could have any angle I wanted.  As I suspect you desire.  My biggest peeve with most placements is the jacks are too close together on many amps so you run the risk of shorting them out, hence the covers by well-meaning manufacturers.  Why not just put them 3 inches apart?

HI,

The plastic covers are mandated by law.  You can not allow anything to potentially fall on them (plus and minus) and cause a short as well as no childs finger can come in contact with the inner workings.

I have no problem with the plastic covers. i just want to rotate them to upsidedown.
My question was not answered though.

Hi Elizabeth,

I have asked engineering to find out for you.

The good news:  The binding posts mount in square holes, so they can be installed facing up, down, left or right.

The bad news:  It's not as simple as loosening a screw and rotating them.  Not to say it isn't possible to do in the field, just not something to be taken lightly.  If you want to tackle it, e-mail me (mike@bryston.com) and I'll provide some model specific instructions.

PRELUDE

I was thinking that I am the only one that like these terminals facing down but after talk to some friends found out that a lot of people like it face down.
I did mine on all the amps about 5 years ago.As Mike said it is a little bit of more then just loosening and turning.
For anyone who is interested in to do it.
The tools are very simple and this is what I was used.

The original view.

Remove the cover and this is the close up view of inside.

On each terminal you can see, 2nuts,3 washers,1 locking washer and the plastic piece.loose the first nut and remove it with the locking washer and the regular washer on each.

Now push the little circuit board back and loose the second nut.  NOTE:You do not have to take the second nut and two washers off.Just loose it enough to able to pull the terminal out and rotate just like the picture.

Now you can put everything back just the Way it was.(do not over tight)

And you are done. :thumb:
1.Do not do it if you are not comfortable.
2.This is for SST series not SST2.
