loud hum

:cry:I have a Sota table (started life as a star but basically a nova at this point) with a rega rb300 arm and a clearaudio arum beta cartridge.  A little over a month ago I heard a really loud hum out of one channel.  I tried it on a couple of different amps and it stayed the same.  I tried listening through my headphones and still got the hum.  The hum doesn't occur with my other sources and the hum still happens if I plug it into some other input on the preamp.  I hooked up another table and it works fine.  I sent it to rega and they said the arm tested fine so I sent them the cartridge and they said everything was perfect.  So then I sent the arm and cartridge to sota.  they said the arm was fine, but they haven't tested the cartridge yet, but I have a feeling the cartridge is fine.

Does anyone have any idea what happened.  It is weird because it happened all of a sudden.  It was fine one day and not the next.  Any help/advice would be appreciated

thanks
John

Did you check grounding?

Marbles:

it is interesting my first response was yes, but at the time my line conditioner had a chip where the ground pin for the plug went in but then again wouldn't the hum be in both channels if it was the culprit.

thanks for the help

Mostly that is the case, but I have heard of wierder things than one channel hums being caused by poor grounding before.

Good luck running down the cause.
