Finally I've managed to crack it: the ever persistent drive_id_107 code that appeared with every boot is history!
Having tried all options in the formatting settings, I suddenly saw the advanced options in the Disk Utility. 2 of my hdd's had a different setting than the one giving me the drive_id_107 error. One has to select the option of the Master Boot Record.....
previously I had the GUID option selected, resulting in the error....
took me 9 hours to fill the Hdd again, but it was worth it.
