HP tablet running WebOS
« on: 14 Aug 2012, 01:28 am »
Okay guys, I have one for you. With the browser in WebOS, Max 2 almost works. Things would be great if there were scroll bars. With the HP tablet, I can access the first 12 artists in my collection. In all other respects, the operation is fine. I simply cannot scroll. Java is enabled, FWIW.

I searched the entire BDP-1 area – not a single reference to WebOS. I’m obviously in a minority position, and I’m not attempting to saddle Bryston with the peculiarities of Palm’s platform. I’m just tossing it out here as a curiosity. I’m still trying to find an alternative to the bundled browser.

Running an Android OS on the tablet gets me the scroll bars, but wifi operation goes to crap. If I stumble into a solution, I'll post it here. I'm sure everyone's on pins and needles.

Why does android hurt your wifi strength?  Thats peculiar--is it a documented issue?

There is an early alpha of CM10 out for the Touchpad (Jelly Bean) a lot of stuff isn't complete yet, but wifi is supposed to be solid--why not give that a try?

Hi Kevin,

We had an HP tablet running webos in last summer when max 2 was in early prototype stage.  From what I recall everything worked except it was rally slow, when I tied scrolling it was several minutes before it actually scrolled.  I'll see if we can't get that HP tablet back in fOr further testing, but it could be sometime if ever.

Cheers,
Chris

I don't imagine it's affecting the strength, but the wifi goes through an endless succession of connecting and then almost immediately dropping the connection - it's useless. That was with CM 7. I grabbed the latest image from Palm and restored the tablet to a factory-fresh state. (WebOS still didn't cut it.) Then, I had a go at CM 9 (Android 4.0.5 is supposedly pretty much stable), which proved a bit frustrating. Between the dead links and miserable documentation, it was more of a challenge than it should have been, but it's done and working.

The better news is that I can scroll though the catalog now. The bad news is that the display of the player is a bit 'off', but it's usable. Now that I'm running IceCreamSandwich, I have some options. I have more playing to do, but things look pretty promising. Another bit of good news is that I haven't noticed any issues with wifi yet.

I inherited it from my son with the CM 7 installed on it - so he could watch netflix. He said it was pretty much useless 80% of the time, and he was right. He's in the iWorld now (and loving it). I'm having 'fun' with his trash. Thanks for the advice.

Chris - prioritize this last+1.

In case anyone is interested, I tried MPDroid on the new platform and it works flawlessly. It's nice and simple - not flashy. Since it's not trying to display so much at once, there's room for the titles to be displayed. It's just a simple/single touch to add a track to the playlist. The actual play/control screen is nifty and responsive. So far, it's operating flawlessly. I think I'm set now.
