hi,
i recently bought a used 4B-ST / BP20 preamp combo and a pair of B&W nautilus 803 speakers from a reputable dealer in used high end audio gear. i am using a ps3 as CD player connected to preamp via musical fidelity V-DAC toslink. using audioquest unbalanced RCA interconnects from V-DAC to preamp and same cables from preamp to 4B-ST.
very happy with the results so far and a massive step up from my old denon integrated / wharfedale diamond combo. this was my first step into proper audiophile territory so you could say i am noobish.
only concern is that when i power down the 4B-ST i get the static discharge through my speakers (which I have been told is normal by the audio dealer) however the CH2 LED indicator on the 4B-ST front panel flashes red for maybe half a second which seems to coincide with a slight pop sound from CH2 speaker. i remember hearing the static discharge while demoing but don't recall any sort of pop and don't recall CH2 LED flash red.
initially i thought it was a problem with the power amp spoke with bryston support australia they advised to unplug all interconnects, power it up, power it down and check result. when i did this both LED's flashed red. took it back to audio dealer on bryston advice and although he disagreed there was anything wrong with the amp we were able to replicate the red LED in store so he happily swapped it out for another unit.
get home hook up the new amp - same deal. the pop seems to have gone but i still get the red LED fflash on CH2 when powering down. i've troubleshooted every aspect i can think of without resolve.
- swapped out unit
- tried different interconnects
- swapped interconnects
- tried different preamp inputs / outputs
i thought i had resolved it today by swapping out the interconnects from preamp to power amp. powered it up and powered it down - 2 green LED but much to my dismay, after a session of approx 45 mins usage, powred it down - red LED flash on CH2.
is this something i should even be concerned about and if i should be concerned, do you have any ideas what else i can try troubleshooting wise? is it possible that this could cause potential damage to my speakers?
thanks for your time and opinions.
cheers

matt
