Mac Mini Mod
« on: 14 Aug 2012, 11:31 am »
Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to put this thread but...

I was looking into modifying my Mac Mini 2011 model so that it can run off a 12V DC deep cycle battery (http://www.justkampersaustralia.com/shop/ritar-12v-100ah-agm-deep-cycle-battery-j80360.html). Correct me if I am wrong but would I need to remove the existing PSU in the mac mini and replace it with some sort of regulator or picoPSU? Some advice or some general guidance would much appreciated. This is for a university project I am working on.

I had Dave at PI Audio mod mine, he removed PS and installed a new power connect. My battery buss is set up to 13 v for the mini. I'm sure if you contacted Dave he would be happy to answer any question you have. If you are only running the mini off the battery then the 100 amp/hr batt is bit of over kill

+1 Dave at PI Audio Group does this mod.

You may not need a 100ah, but I recommend a 35ah or larger.
