Marantz
« on: 22 Aug 2012, 10:23 pm »
Hello everyone, One thing that has bothered me about my system is that its a bunch of componets bought at diffrent times out of necessity. Therefore no synergy. I have been wanting to correct that, but was having a hard time deciding on what way to go. Well it started when my dad found his old marantz tuner in his basement and gave it to me. Now I am on my way for a 70's vintage Marantz system. Well today I scored a Marantz 510 amp. This thing sounds great and is a tank. Bye bye Adcom. Anyway what do you all know about this amp. It had a very short production run due to its cost. I hear that there are mods for it but I dont know what. Basically are there any Marantz gurus on this site. Any opinions are welcome.

Thanks for the good words. Im happy with it so far. I dont think I'll be tired of it soon, but there is an Adcom amp and Mcintosh preamp That are going away to make room to make room for the Marantz gear(shameless plug). I am finding out that there is not a lot of resources for these amps. Oddly that makes me more determined. Also a shout out again to any Marantz users, fans or gurus in the group.
Thanks.

Herb, you will want to pick up a Marantz 7t or a 3300 or higher preamp, and then keep an eye out for the close to matching era 120, 120B or 150 Oscope tuner. They will fit better with the 510 than your 125 tuner.
Is yours a 510 or a 510M amp? Either way, you got the king of the hill there. :green:

Give me a ring, I know a little about Marantz.

Hello Dave, I'm holding out for a 7t preamp. It seems to be the general consensus for a pre. I'm keeping the tuner I have. It was from my dad and it's personal. The amp is actually the 510R. I'm getting used to it and liking it. It's more relaxed than the Adcom was. Not as foreward but more detailed. Nice to see another Marantz person here.

Just a little history on the 510R: Built between 1976 and 1978.
256 watts per channel (RMS)@ 8 ohms.
Matching preamp(s): 3600, 3800

Picture for others:

I am also a Marantz vintage collector. I currently have a 115B tuner, 3300 preamp and 140 power amp.
