Question on purchasing a Bryston amp.
« on: 10 Jul 2012, 01:19 pm »
Hi James (Hi everyone here too  :) ),

Today at 'round 2 p.m. -3 G.M.T., I will be making a wire transfer so as to purchase a 4B SST2.

Is it so that the amp will be built from scratch, after receiving payment?

Thus, I assume there are no amps in stock. I mean units completely built and tested.

Then, I might be able to know beforehand the serial number of the unit which will be built for me.

Am I right?

 :?

[ Edited: sorry, I've just deleted the screen capture of the payment instructions my Bryston dealer gave me - thought it contained personal data which shouldn't be wise to disclose ]

Congrats Fernando on your Bryston purchase.  I own a 4B-SST2 myself and love it - I'm sure you will too.

What do you plan to use it with - your preamp, source and speakers?  And, what were your choices, from the many, as follows:

Pro or C-series
silver or black finish
handles or not
17" or 19"
blue or green LED lighting

Thanks people  :D

It's still not at home, today I sent the money as planned - Purchase Order Nº 0436.

@ SoundGame: it will replace my 4B ST. The pre-amp will be the same BP 25P I already have, balanced connected using Bryston cables to the power amp, which is bi-wired via VDH The Wind MkII, to a pair of PMC MB 2i on their short stands. Digital front end is a Meridian 508-24, analog front ends are vintage Kenwood turntable and cassette tape deck, for old recordings I like to have. The Meridian is fine for now, and balanced connected to the BP 25P via VDH The Second.
I chose the new SST2 to be C Series, black finish, 19" with handles (... of course !  8) ) - and MUST be 230V with Schuko AC plug.
Green LEDs - I think green leds are easier to see, but if they were not, I like them better on a black finish amp. Was it silver finish, I would have doubted - blue LEDs look beautiful on silver.

@ lanchile: hey, good to know ! - I met Edgardo on the internet only, 'round 2003; that is four years after I had bought my 4B ST. He's been very supportive on this upgrade, which I have been planning since 2009. It's rather difficult for a regular citizen to import goods into Uruguay, - it's much more easy if one is an enterprise which is not my case, but I'm finding my way. Edgardo advised me wisely, and we thought each step together.

But I insist, it's still far from home.

When connected and putting out some of may favorite jazz tunes, you all here will read me screaming 'HURRRAY'

James,
May I remind you of a short story in which your help was most valuable, and made me feel not only relieved but also converted me into a Bryston fan?
During 2001 I was struggling to bi-wire my speakers, and was lucky enough to buy four Van den Hul banana connectors in Rome. To my surprise, one of them suffered from a manufacturing defect, so I tried to contact VDH several times but no luck. During 2001, there was no VDH distributor in America.
I wrote you in despair, you answered what did I need, and a new VDH banana arrived home.
