Did you ever have one of those things that drives you insane for hours?
The Brystons are going off for service and it cooled down enough to hook up my beloved VTLs and I need to make some CD-Rs for Brooklyn (sorry for the lengthy delay, by the way).
Put on the album and one channel is really low. Ahh, crap.
Do I have the same problem with the radio? Nope.
Maybe it's a bum tube in the phono stage so I spend forever swapping tubes around, no difference, maybe a bum cable so I swap cables all around, no difference, fun and games.
Take the Jolida JD9 downstairs and it works perfectly.
Crap, this stereo junk is going to drive me to drink.
Back upstairs and it's gotta be the turntable.
I remove the cartridge clips, spray everything with contact cleaner, reconnect and several hours later, back in bidniss.
Now to just clean up the mess I made and back to these CD-Rs.
I must admit, the sound of Zappa's Charlie's Enormous Mouth coming through the 1.7s here does make it all worthwhile.
