For Sale: A MHDT Havana DAC. This is the single ended model and I am the third owner. The unit has been substantially upgraded by the previous owner with the following:
1) The replacement of the two input capacitors with Jensen copper foil paper in oil in aluminum case ones.
2) The replacement of the cap behind the input caps with a Jupiter HT.
3) The replacement of the two output coupling caps with Jupiter HTs.
4) The conversion of the RCA coaxial input connector to a BNC connector for true 75 ohm compatibility (I will include a BNC to RCA adaptor).
5) The substitution of a Hi-Fi Tuning Fuse for the stock fuse.
6) The substitution of the stock tube with a Western Electric JW396A/2C51.
The soldering work was done by Scott Gramlich of SG Custom Sound, an excellent technician. The upgrades cost almost $400 in total. The tube has been used for less than a year.
The auditory result of these upgrades is that all dryness and graininess present previously is gone, while resolution and clarity are significantly improved. Most dramatically the dynamics and bass pitch/definition are hugely increased. All without losing any of the coherence and flow that are a NOS DAC's greatest attraction.
There is a scratch (viewable in the pictures) on the top of the piece but it is otherwise in good condition (what looks like a scratch to the left of the power switch, is a piece of lint). I do not have the original box but will double box the unit and pack exceptionally well. There is no power cord included as MHDT do not send one. The original caps will be included.
In addition I will add one each of the following NOS tubes (worth a total of $85 or more):
WE 396A/2C51 (1955 vintage)
Sylvania 5670
Raytheon 5670
RCA 5670
$600 including Paypal and shipping.
