Can anybody identify these speakers?
« on: 21 Jul 2012, 08:51 pm »
I saw these listed on craigslist for very cheap, but wanted to get a ballpark on value before I made an effort to get them.  All I know is that they are a bit old and are claimed to be in good shape.  Anybody have a guess as to the make/model?

Wasn't sure where to post my question, but since they are certainly cheap...

Thanks

Based on the fuzzy logo they might be BIC RTR speakers. Google BIC RTR to see if you agree that the logo in the speaker matches the BIC RTR logo.

I don't think they're RTR.  Have you seen a better pic of this logo?   It's not Rectilinear their logo was different.  Maybe Radio Shack?

RTR made the 300D and 600D around 1980 and they looked like this picture.  Twin 10" or 12" and dome mids and tweeters.  Hope this helps a bit.

AudioKarma is a good place to research this type of thing.

I think you guys are right RTR 300D would be my guess after looking at some other pics, though 600D would be a possible:

Thanks!

oh, I did try to contact the seller to ask what they were and haven't heard back yet.
From the ad: "...old but still sound great. Too big for room. $25.00 for the pair. "
Was looking at them as a pair of beaters for work.  Scored a pair of JBL 4408 in excellent condition a little over a week ago for $20, but I need to re-foam the woofers (the foam kit cost more than the speakers!)

Cheers and thanks, not sure if I will peruse them yet.

I'm guessing that they're some sort of "White Van" speakers, but you never know, could be something interesting.

Those RTR's sounded pretty good back then, good beaters for that price.  :thumb:

Confirmed from the seller, they are indeed RTRs.  I'm going to pass but if anybody else wants them here is a link to the ad:

I couldn't make out the logo, but RTR made some decent speakers.  Later, BIC bought the name.

If the woofers look like these 300Ds, you could be in for a real project.

On the other hand, it would be hard to imagine them still "sounding great" if the surrounds were intact.

I saw those pics too Steve!  ...part of why I am letting them go.  Already have the JBLs to re-foam, not looking for another project.
