Bryston or Anthem Propostion.... what to choose!?
« on: 9 May 2012, 12:49 am »
Hi all,
I've been given a unique proposal from my local dealer as they are doing some spring house clearing: so here it is,

I can have the Anthem Statement D2 pre-pro (not the current D2V that supports hi-res video codex and 3D) and the P5 multi-channel amp for 6000 + my BP26. Total cost new is 17k.

or

I can have the Bryston 4BSST2 for 4500 + taxes. I currently have the BP26 and BCD1.

I've basically made up my mind and you may be surprised but, Iam curious what others would pick in this situation. This is not a case of who is better just, what would you do if you were offered this situation.

There is a Anthem Statement D-2 on CAM for 2950(like new),don't know what the P-5 is worth.
Your 26  could sell at 25 and up(not sure).
Maybe if surround is important to you then perhaps,or if the Statement is what you really want.
I think warranty is very important.Anthem warranty is what 2-3 year.
So retail your getting the pro and amp for about 1/2 off with the 26 hmmmm.
Really depends if you like the Anthem sound, curious as to what your leaning towards.
What amp(s) do you use now.You could buy a sp-2 and say an Oppo Bluray and use the Oppo's new formats to the analog in on the sp-2.
I would take ...............................,I'd do the sp-2 and the Oppo.

I was considering the Anthem D-2 awhile back. It has impressive multi-channel features and before the SP3 it and Lexicon I believe, were the only viable hi-end multi-channel processors to choose from. But the price the dealer quoted me was above my budget range.

I now have an SP2, paired with the BDA-1 the sound is outstanding in both stereo and multi-channel mode. Now I have found that the majority of my recordings sound just as good or better in stereo than multi-channel, depending on the mix. Basically the SP2 is equivalent to the B-26 in stereo bypass.

Next we have the SST2 amp, which is a very linear amp, which I have found with extensive listening can process subtle detail that other Bryston amps I own, don't. My guess only very expensive competitive brands can match this amps linear output.

So my recommendation is to pair a BDA-1, with the B-26 and 4B SST2. Compare that to the Anthem combo in a demo if you can, then choose. :smoke:

Save your $$ and not buy the D2 and instead get Onkyo 5508 or Integra 80.3 (both cheaper alternatives to D2 without any compromise). The other option is to get Bryston SP3 and avoid BP-26 (SP3 has equally good preamp section).

Wow! Only 3 people chimed in on this.... thanks you to those who did.  :thumb:

So, today i picked up the 4bsst2, Bryston speaker cables and XLR interconnect. Finally i have my system completed and the ML Spires are going to love all that clean robust current.  8)

Go with the Bryston stuff. Anthem is good, but not quite as good, imo.
