Anyone who can be bothered to post on an audio website after reading an article about hi-end audio is ( to at least some extent ) a maximizer. From there it's just a question of willingness and wherewithall...

D.D., since we have both bothered to post on an audio website after reading this article, then I suppose that makes both of us maximizers.

I said I'm a bit of both for this reason: I tried to develop a good low cost second system but in an important way I failed. I discovered that relatively low cost audio can be very good, making me something of a satisfier. But then I blew the whole thing by trying to maximize it. So what began as a system costing a few hundred dollars is now one costing a few thousand.

No, you're right. I'm an incorrigible maximizer.

It depends on how often i use that system to engage the sweet spot. Most of my listening lately is in the car but I would not consider upgrading my car stereo. But since I love being in the sweet spot the money i spend helps get the most out of that listening position. Maximize in the sweet spot.

I am a satisfier. I get to where I can afford, and tweak it some, then just stop.
I do not give a darn
(read that way toned down wording for what i REALLY would write)
about wht someone else thinks about my stuff.
Maybe when i was younger i cared too much about what others thought. Now, being an old fat ugly hag I can do as I please, and am happy.
I use my stereo stuff in some ways a few have insulted me for (my VAC Standard preamp as a glorified tube buffer) and having that VAC into the Bryston BP-26 is one. Using all sorts of crazy tweaks is another.
Anyway, i am not worried about it.
Also i am a spendthrift. I try to save money by spending a fortune on stuff. Crazy.. I buy tons of music, but only used.. and it has to be cheap..
So all in all I must be a satisfier.

One point I would make is it was back in the 1950's 60's even 70's anyone with modest income could own a 'high end' stereo system, the best around, no problem.
Now, to be in the 'high end' you have to be a Bill Gates or some many multi milionaire.
My friends think I am insane blowing $30K on stereo stuff two years ago. Incomprehensible! (they have no idea that $$$ is just mid fi.. and if I had an additional !00K I could have easily spent it too..LOL)

D.D., we're not so much slow on the uptake as we are reticent about feeding into your salacious humour. Most of us have come to accept that it is prudent not to encourage you.

Given what you've written here today, you may not have worked "blue," but you are toying at the edges by innuendo - magenta, purple?

As Guttman said in The Maltese Falcon: "Here's to plain speaking and clear understanding."

Anyone who can be bothered to post on an audio website after reading an article about hi-end audio is ( to at least some extent ) a maximizer. From there it's just a question of willingness and wherewithall...

Anyone participating on an audio board like AC isn't really a "minimizer" in that we don't consider an iPod to be our main reproduction system for music. We care too much to settle for that. We may take different roads to arrive at our destination, but we all share the destination - a system that reproduces music in all it's beauty and power in a way that does it justice. We don't all see the details the same way but in terms of the ultimate goal, that's largely irrelevant other than to provide a reason to converse ( and sometimes argue ) about the means to the end. Because we care.

And because we care, we are willing to spend our hard-earned money to achieve this mystical "perfect system" which is the carrot at the end of the stick which many among us never seem to actually clamp our teeth around. How much of our resources we can devote to this varies - that's the wherewithall part. And again, it's largely irrelevant. We do what we can. But regardless of our individual levels of wherewithall, we do it because we care.
And even those of us who have gotten a taste of that carrot and decide to call it a meal and push away from the table really aren't "satisfiers" - unless you decide to plunk the whole works down in the Trading Circle and get that iPod. Until you do, once you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way...

Can't believe it took five replies....:green:

D.D.

...for someone to go for the low-hanging fruit offered by a thread title which was King Harvest in terms of low-hanging fruit. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Even the low-hanging fruit shouldn't be left to spoil - the more laughs the better otherwise we all end up just ranting at each other about the minutia of "The Hobby" and lose the sense of joy that music should instill in all of us.

Just so that we're clear, Dave.

D.D. I think you have made yourself as clear as you possibly can. If you felt obligated to provide a clarification, the fault is mine.

You made a joke. I tried to reply with two of my own, which evidently flopped mightily. I never intended to suggest that you were offending me or anyone. If anyone, and especially you, D.D., took my posts that way, I apologize. Wry humour is something that plays poorly on forums.

Do I agree we should include more laughs than rants on AC? Certainly. My error is that I tend to try to let my words, rather than emoticons, make the punchline. Obviously a big mistake. In the future I'll try to remember to put lots of smileys in my posts.  :D :D :D

Perfect, D.D.! Before I jumped to the YouTube link, instantly I thought, "What we have here is a failure to communicate."

And I take full responsibility for that failure, which was unintentional. I read your message as a joke, in error, and you would seem to have read my intended joke as an accusation, which wasn't my intention.

I wanted to delete my messages, but found that option is denied us. I have asked the administrator, who decided in December to eliminate the deletion option, to reconsider that decision.

In lieu of deletions, D.D., would it suffice if I eat several dozen hard boiled eggs? :D

Surely you would want to be a maximum satisfier with the ladies... so a bit of both?
