I've had the DVD-A version of Greendale for about a month.  I think it's one of Neil Young's best in a long time.  It is kind of a long jam as the general beat and tone are carried throughout most of the tracks.  I can't seem to play much else lately.  I am a Young fan from way back in the 70's and have a lot of his LPs from that era.  This disc has the same edge of much of his earlier work.  Maybe getting back together with Crazy Horse brought it out.  When I listen to this disc it makes me think that Neil is THE original grunge rocker.  Excellent, and highly recommended.

Good observation.  On one album of his, Pearl Jam backs him up and when I saw him live a ways back, Soundgarded was the opener.  Guess the grunge guys "get" him and vice versa.

After living with this disc for awhile I can appreciate the genius of it, but it doesn't knock Harvest or Harvest Moon out of the top of my list of Youngs' best discs.  Very good though.

Warner does not make sacd's so unless he went whith another label and has control of the rights to all of his music....this would be impossible.
He does have enough control to re-release titles on vinyl and maybe enough to insist on no watermarking of recordings done in dvd-a, and even that is a big maybe.
Warner artist do not get a choice of sacd, much like Sony artists don't get to choose dvd-a...and unless something drastic happens, this is how it will be for a while.

Most artists have ZERO control over their back catalog. You would be shocked to know how many artists are just trying to get their back catalog remastered and they have no control other than to try to buyout the rights from the record company. Very few artists can afford to do this. A record company commits to a format across their entire artist roster.

Record company executive: "Let's see - Madonna likes SACD, Price likes DVDA, and Britney likes redbook so that's what we will produce."  Sorry but the biz doesn't work this way.

I'll take a good remastering job in DVDA or SACD. Hell, if the remastering is really good even a redbook version through a non-oversampling DAC can sound pretty good.

I'll pickup the Greendale DVDA and call Neil with my review.
