I agree JLM, that is why I am sending JoshK a check so maybe he can eat for a little while and maybe get a new set of rags to bind his feet with.  It's a good thing the government has started to put internet access in homeless shelters so otherwise completely destitue poor bastards like Josh and others can still access AC and chat about all the expensive gear they can't afford.  I think everyone should reach out and lend a helping hand to all the poor audiophiles here who might otherwise go hungry.  It only costs pennies a day to sponsor a poor audiophile, so don't delay!

Maybe I'm just too much of a nice guy, but if I had $7,000 that I had to spend why not buy the $1,000 version and donate the other $6,000 to charities or friends?...

Not everyone likes to give away the money they worked very hard to obtain.  Instead, they prefer to reward themselves with a higher standard of living, which includes expensive hi-fi.

Also, what makes you think these 'big spenders' don't give money to people in need?

Are super rich people here?  Please donate to the AC Audiophile Foundation... I'll create one right away if there are some 'super rich' around here...

I'll try not to whither in guilt when I crank the tunes tonight. :(

carl, i tink yure missing the point.  in this case, the only ting the extra $6k gets ya is a different logo silkscreened on the faceplate...  so, jlm is suggesting giving it away to those who may be more in need than mark levinson.   :o

but, i tink if customers of red rose music knew that their amp was exactly the same as a $1k wersion, most would *not* shell out the extra cash for the "prestige" of having that red rose label on their amp, & the ability to boast to friends that they paid $7k for it.  ignorance is what enables red rose to stay in biz, in this case.  yust my opinion of course...

One might think that an individual who purports to be an authority on the lifestyle and socioeconomic status of other posters here would have a better command of the English language.

Lesson for the day:  Money might buy you friends, but it can't buy you class.

Yeah I rambled and created at least a couple of thoughts:

1. Rather than pay $6,000 for a badge, why not give to someone you like or needs it?

2. We've all spent "more than necessary" on this hobby, so in a way we're all guilty of greed.  But at least it's justified in terms of making an attempt of improving function and/or sound quality.

3. The fault I see with Peter's argument is that we have some sort of justification for extra spending but he didn't see the need for justification at all.  That boils down to individual values.  Personally I wasn't raised to waste money to that degree.  We probably all waste money at varying amounts.

Hope that clarifies.

Peter's Argument?

My argument is that it's a free country and money earned is yours to do with as you please.

Thanks for the humanitarian suggestions.

Peter,
  :stupid:

You are "generalizing", hence you will get some bad sentiments here.

It is unfortunate that no AC, AA, HT, AAA members have bought stuffs from you lately.  You can rest assured that word-of-the-mouth will come along way and eventually hurt your business.

It looks like you need to hang-out here more often because you have ALOT to learn.

People on this forum (especially) just think about the price. This is because they have to count every coin they spend to their hobby.

People into high-end don't think in this way, but you don't get it!
