I've met the dude.  I can vouch for his honesty--I'm sure these are a really good deal.  And in bamboo no less.

A sweet deal for sure :green: Nice looking speakers and being the later model with the RAAL tweeter, I know exactly what someone is in for :thumb:

So when someone gets a Salk in "bamboo", I assume that always means all bamboo plywood and no MDF.  Does the bamboo construction negate the need for the optional hardwood corner pieces?

In other words, if you don't want a satin black half-baffle, it costs you $300 for a full front veneered (over MDF) baffle with hardwood trim.  If you like the bamboo grain and color, you can have a solid bamboo cabinet for the same $300 upcharge?

Yes, that is correct.  Since rounding over simply exposes more bamboo with bamboo plywood, no "hardwood trim" is required.

Jim....  Reviving an old thread!  How is this bamboo approach compared to MDF/Veneer with regard to weight?  Is bamboo close in density resulting in similar weight or would it produce any significant reduction in weight?

Edit:  Oops!  Now that I see the thread title I apologize for reviving this instead of starting a new thread.  Bound to cause confusion.  Please don't throw your empty jewel cases at me.

Bamboo does weigh less than MDF.  But I wouldn't say the weight reduction is all that significant.

Thanks Jim.  Was worth a shot.  I guess if the difference was more significant, the bamboo would be less desirable for rigid wall material.

Wow what a deal, and with the RAAL no less.  These are going to make someone very happy, although the add has expired...

Yeah, expired six months ago.  So I guess unknown if they sold.  I think the owner could be contacted through the Audiogon ad to see.  He seems to have under estimated retail price for these should be more like $5000 with bamboo and hardwood plinths.

I get teh distinct impression that you keep inside your head the full history,  current location and owner's name of every set of speakers that've been accompanied by a Salk Sound birth certificate.   :thumb:

I used to, but I find my head is no longer big enough.  Either my memory is slipping or it is simply too much to remember.
