SAXR25; 45; 50 analog inputs. . .
« on: 18 May 2004, 08:36 pm »
Anyone have experience w/ using the Panny's analog inputs w/ a good DAC or good CD player?  What have been the results?

I'm considering getting a Panny using its analog inputs in conjunction w/ a SN Tube Dac+ w/ the 3xac PS. . .

This set-up would only be temporary (for a few months). . .mainly so I can get my subwoofer back in action.

Oh, and what type of speaker connections are on these units?  Binding posts, I hope!

feeding a digital receiver an analog signal.   not good.    i think the whole point is that it's a kick-ass source unit which is digital from the beginning and keeps the signal digital.    a tubedac  would be converting digital to analog then would the xr45 be converting back to digital?

you should check one out in person at best buy.   there's no binding post.  these things are just little cheap light-weight japanesse units.

all my stuff is heavy, big and rock solid and hand-built in the US   except my scan-speak drivers are hand-made in Denmark.

Who cares about weight, and where it is made?

The XR50 doesn't need to be heavy as it amplifies digitally and uses different circuitry than a conventional audio amp.  You could make it heavy by putting lead in the case if you wish.  :)   I guess it could be lead from the US if it made one feel better...

BTW I have a Panasonic DMC-LC33 digital camera, Panasonic duplexing laser printer, S55 CD player.  Everything works well.  Anything I (or my parents) ever bought made by Panasonic (or National as it was known way back when) has always been a good value and lasted forever.

Running analog signals into the XR50 is no problem.  Sounds just fine.

It's true that it will sound "fine" when running analog inputs to the Panny digital amps but to get the best it has to offer, it is best to run the digital signal from your source into the coax digital on the Panny.  This just cuts out the A/D conversion that will happen at the analog inputs.

There are many threads about the Panny and its abilities over in the Bolder Cable forum.  Guys there are tweaking them out (me included in a week when my XR45 gets here) with things like bybee filters on the digital input, new binding posts, better supply caps, new internal wiring and I think that about sums up the mods.  Wayne at Bolder Cable Co. offers mods on these units (the XR45) and could explain better the details behind it.  Or just read those threads in his forum.
