All I know is that I've used 3 different passive attenuators, DACT, Goldpoint, Alps (shunt mod diy), using 1 meter ic's.  The clarity is awesome on each one with no loss of lows or highs that I can discern.  They work fine for me and my simple two channel setup.  And, 2 volts can sound pretty dynamic with average or higher sensitivity speakers.  :D
