Itunes playback problems
« on: 2 Apr 2012, 01:04 am »
Need a little help guys.

today I downloaded the latest version of Itunes to my HP laptop.  I then downloaded quite a bit of music from the Itunes site.  I am using my laptop as a server for a party this weekend.  Upon playback, I am getting a lot of 'skips' in the songs.  It is random and quite noticeable.  It is exactly the kind of crap you get when you are trying to watch an online video and the buffering cannot keep up with playback.  I believe this is a buffering / latency issue but there is absolutely nothing that I can find on the Itunes site that addresses this issue and I'm hoping that someone can help.  As it is, I will not be able to use this set-up as the playback is horrible. (this is my fricking wedding reception).

I am not a computer audio guy and this is something that I was not expecting.  I don't need audiophile quality souund - MP3 files are fine but the playback is not gonna fly.

Help please.

Charles:
The issue may be with your network rather than iTunes...

Bump.  Still looking for help.  This issue is occurring with itune mp3 files that have been downloaded to my HP laptop.  No network is involved.  We're dealing with filescoming from the hard drive.  Any ideas?

Can you describe the rest of the setup?   i.e. Windows 7?  Using the headphone jack, USB DAC/Audio Device, streaming to Apple TV or like device?  Do you have the same issue if you played back a CD?

I've been having the same problem you're describing.   It's as if the computer is running too many things and the music stutters - the other night I was playing free cell while listening to iTunes.  I thought it was every time I won/lost or made an illegal move (whenever a notification comes up). After a little while it became apparent that that was just coincidental.  No Internet connection was being used at the time, as I was at a different house and didn't connect to the network.

My laptop is pretty old - 8 years or so, running Wnidows XP.

I haven't looked for an iTunes update.  Maybe there's a new one?   I think it's an iTunes glitch, or we just both have the same issue.  Try a google search and see what comes up.  It would really suck to have this going on during a reception!
