Project/one Replacement shell
« on: 1 Apr 2012, 05:27 am »
Hi,

I'm new to this circle and am hoping that someone can help me out.  I recently acquired a Project/one DR-331 Turntable.  It's in great shape but missing the cartridge shell.  Can anyone suggest where I can find a replacement.  This is the turntable made by the former Playback chain of stores out of Chicago and not a Pro-Ject manufactured unit.

Thanks,
helmontt

i moved this for you, to the appropriate circle.

also you might want to post a pic, so we can see the tonearm.

I think that turntable has a Jelco (made in japan) tonearm so it probably has a 1/2" 4 pin headshell.  There are many vendors that carry these, just do an internet search.

LP gear, Needledoctor, ebay all have headshells if your arm is standard mount.  Check their websites for more info.

Is the arm curved or straight?

Straight ones will need a different headshell.

i suspect this deck has a curved arm and looks something like this:

which would mean pretty-much any generic headshell will fit it.

I agree, here is the stock headshell on a DR-220.  There are some straight arm PROJECT/one's out there, but I don't think they were originally shipped from the factory like that.

pics i found of straight arm project one's do not have a removable headhsell; it's integral w/the arm.

PROJECT/One's were re-badged CEC turntables from the 70's, all made in Japan.  Most had Jelco arms on them.  I think PROJECT/One was "store brand" back then, occasionally I will see a receiver with that name on it.  Project1 is the current manufacturer that uses the straight arms with the fixed headshell.
