If you'll notice, yes, I was arguing that point on many of these DVD-V soundtracks.  however, Mag is often listening to the lossy DD or DTS layer.  No real big deal (unless it were under my Circle  :)   )

Yes and No. :|

Sofar I have come across dvds that are:
Lpcm 48/24 bit- Joe Satriani, Live from San Francisco from what I can determine
 Lpcm 48/16 bit
Dts 48/ various bitrate
DD 48/ various bitrate

Usually Lpcm sounds the best to my ears, then dts, Dolby if the bitrate is high.

Update on new dvds that I have had time to listen to:

Electric Light Orchestra- Zoom Tour Live: Sound quality good on dts track. Music is good but not a fan.

Nikki Yanofsky- Live in Montreal: Excellent sound with the Lpcm 48/16 track. You will be impressed in you like her music. She will only get better as she matures to an adult.

Toto- Falling in Between, Live: Good sound quality from the dts track. Not my brand of music, but like 3 songs on dvd.

Bachman & Turner- Live at the Roseland Ballroom, NYC: Sound quality is good in Dolby. But prefer the remastered Best of cd.

The Moody Blues- Hall of Fame: Poor sound quality with Dolby. A cd will sound better.

Maybe you should switch to Blu-Ray, DTS-Master HD etc. is a different ballgame.

Some that enthusiasts are raving about here is "AYO Live at the Olympia", John Mayer Where the light is, Jeff beck at Ronnies , Sheryl Crow Live, Les Miserables.
The new Oppo player is maybe for you?

YES,Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's is SUPERB.
I first heard and watched it at a dealers room aprox 32X20 room with an all Mc system with 2X1812 subs .
Musically it was like being there live.
The dealer gave me a copy of that disc and I was hoping to capture that bottom end in my modest 12x19 ROOM
with my f-113's(NOPE)A month later the dealer drove 3hr to do a home audition for me.
Sold my Jl's,bought the 1812  even in my room the bottom end is just as good sounding as the dealers :thumb:,
couldn't believe it.Have been searching for that type of bottom for alot of years, finally.
I didn't realize till  after that my 12X19 room opens up to a stairwell,+3 other rooms and the JL's couldn't load 1250sq.ft.at all

Anyway superb disc, also Eagles Australian Farewell Tour I(live from Melbourne) is great also, video and audio.

I have about 200 concert dvds. From what I can see there still isn't many Blu-ray concert videos that interest me. Also I read that many Blu-ray audios are just dvd transfers.
If you are just starting out, then Blu-ray is the way to go. 8)

Another good rock dvd!

Aersmith- You Gotta Move

The tempo is slower than the concert on their Bootleg- cd album, which I prefer. But once you get over that this was a well played perfermance with excellent sound quality.

Has the 48K 16 bit pcm audio track piped through and upsample by BDA-1.

Love the song Rats in the Cellar, bonus track, it rocks!

One more thing. The negative reviews on this Aerosmith dvd is mostly due to the commentary between songs.

You can skip most of the commentary by going to track 3. This is done by selecting, song select, then select -Play Songs-.

With this Eagles concert video, I get better sound playback through my laptop computer using VLC media player, stereo mode, track 1 to BDA-1, to 2 channel bypass. Than using standalone player, dts 5.1 bypass, which is quite impressive in multi-channel.

Don't know if it's because of the HD soundcard in computer or VLC media player, probably both.

Fleetwood Mac- The Dance, dvd

I already mentioned this one, the disc is 2-sided with 5.1 Digital Dolby on one side and Lpcm stereo on the other. Recorded at 48/16 bit.

Needless to say the Lpcm side sounds better upsampled through the BDA-1. :smoke:

Lord of the Dance: Michael Flately Returns
Listened to this dvd today. Has a 2.0 pcm track 48/16 bit, which sounded spectacular. Outstanding show and performance! :smoke:

Pictures at an Exhibition- Special Edition- Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

Okay, I commented on this dvd concert video before in another thread, but I was mistaken, thinking it was a mono recording. Turns out that it is 48/16 bit pcm, according to my media player.

This however is not the flawless concert released on cd. This is a live concert recorded prior to that, with minor differences in the performance.

The video is terrible with cartoonish graphics ruining the historic aspect of this performance. If interested don't buy it for that, buy it for the improved sound quality, piped through your BDA-1. 8)

Okay, 4 more dvd's with 48/16 bit Lpcm tracks in my collection.

Blackmore's Night- Castles & Dreams, also has dts 96/24.

Rush- Exit Stage Left, my second favorite album after All the World's Stage. Does not have the song Jacob's Ladder, which is on the cd version.

Led Zepplin- DVD

Led Zepplin- Song Remains the Same, Special Edition.

Have heard the song Moby Dick many times, the one with the drum solo. With this pcm 48/16 bit track, near the end of the song, where Bonham is going animal on the kit. The sound has this swirling effect that is so cool, never heard that or aware of it before! 8)

Another good dvd that has become one of my favorites that I haven't mentioned is Sheryl Crow, Live.

I like it because not only is the music & sound quality excellent using the dts track. But Sheryl Crow is one hot babe, my kinda women!
