X-CS Encore Question
« on: 26 May 2012, 10:44 pm »
I'm thinking about building a pair of X-CS Encores as my next speaker building project if I can sell
my newly built pair of performance upgraded X-LS Encores. If I were to build the X-CS Encores, they too would be upgraded with Sonicaps and No-Rez. My question is have any AC members built a pair of X-CS Encores with the performance upgrades to use as front main speakers? If so, what is your opinion of their performance and sound quality? I have always liked MTM designs, and how well most of them sound. My X-LS Encores sound great, so I would think the upgraded X-CS Encores  should sound at least as good or better. Your opinions and comments will be appreciated.

I took a pair of X-CS classics, upgraded them with Encore tweeters and Ninja crossovers, No Rezzed the cabinets and ran them as a stereo pair for over a year.  I loved them and sometimes regret selling them.  Fortunately the guy I sold them to loves them too. :thumb:

They seemed to have a little bit tighter and better defined bass over the X-LS as well as better power handling.  About the only drawback to them is that they're big and heavy and seem to dominate the wall theyre in front of.  Then again with your cabinets I think they would look incredible!

Thanks Corndog! I greatly appreciate your comments. So from your experience with the upgraded X-CS Encore, it is definitely a step up from the upgraded X-LS Encores. One question, was the sound stage imaging and depth as good or better than the X-LS Encores?

Most likely building a pair of the upgraded X-CS Encores will be my next project if I can sell my present pair of X-LS Encores. The cabinets would be built similar to the previous N3S cabinets I have built with a 1/2" radius on the front vertical edges.

Going from the X-LS Encore to the X-CS Encore will not be a backwards step in any way. You will gain power handling and higher sensitivity unquestionably. It will also be a little cleaner in the lower ranges as comparably the pair of woofers are sharing the load and each working only half as hard to reach the same SPL levels as a single woofer.

That is what I was thinking too Danny. Past experience in going from a single woofer speaker system like the N1 to the N3 TL or N3S for example was higher sensitivity and greater power handling like you described. Also, they sound bigger too.  I have been a fan of MTM designs for years. Just like the way they sound
