iPeng and Softsqueeze
« on: 21 Mar 2012, 02:10 pm »
I used to use iPeng to control my Bolder SB3.  It is gone now.

I have loaded the latest version of the Squeezeserver (or whatever they are calling it now) on my Mac mini (2007 unit), and have loaded Softsqueeze.

I am using a usb-spdif connection from Mini to amp.

When I sold the SB3 I sold the Gen 2 iTouch that had iPeng installed on it.  I bought a used Gen 3 iTouch for use with an App called Touchpad to be the mouse and keyboard for the Mac.  I do have a 15 lcd panel hung, but want to use the iTouch to control the music without needing to be close to the monitor.

Can iPeng control Softsqueeze installed on the sever?

I have no Logitech player at all at this point.

I figured for $9.99 I could risk it.

It works.

Funny stuff playing around with hardware and software, trying to get it all to jive.

I have a USB spdif converter.  When I use iTunes, the Mac outputs to the USB device.  When I use Softsqueeze, it defaults to the internal speakers, and no playing with settings will resolve it!

I already have iTunes on another pc, so I cannot seem to get iTunes to work optimally on the Mac, and I am struggling to get it to recognize my entire collection on the external hd.  Softsqueeze recognizes it all.

Moving to try a 3rd freeware player on the Mac.  One that can output via the USB device, can see my entire collection, and one that I can use some software to remote control it via my iTouch.

VLC perhaps?  Play?  Audnirvana if there was a free one?

Looks like Audnirvana is pay to play only at this point.

I could not figure out which VLC to download.

I ended up installing Play.  It works fine.

I don't have a remote solution though, so I need to go to the Mac and use the mouse when I want to flip ahead a song etc.

Working on it!
