Up for sale is a VERY lightly used Modwright LS 100 with phono board. I bought this from an authorized dealer as a demo. He stated that the unit had no more than 10 hours on it, and I’ve used it for a further 5 or so. In other words, it’s not anywhere close to being broken in. My intention was to upgrade my speakers at the cost of downsizing my amplification (VAC Phi Beta 110i). After using the Modwright with three different amplifiers, including the VAC’s amp section, I concluded that 1) the Modwright is outstanding value for money, and 2) it’s still not quite as good as the VAC…no surprise given that the 110i’s last list price was $22K. My financial circumstances changed a bit, and I find that I am able to keep the VAC if I sell every extraneous piece of gear that I own.
The LS 100 is the best preamp I’ve ever heard in the price range. I’m particularly impressed with the phono stage, which is quieter than any of the tubed competition that I’ve experienced. So, if you’re looking for an essentially brand new, full function preamp at a significant discount off of list, this is your baby. I prefer Paypal and will split the fee (i.e. you pay 1.5%) with the buyer. Please check my Audiogon feedback (Curriemt11) and buy with confidence. Asking $3100 obo.
I neglected to mention that a matched pair of Shuguang Treasure CV181s are included. These retail for around $200. They absolutely transform this preamp.
