What to do when an XLR connector won't disengage from the preamp???

I have a balanced cable which uses Bocchino terminations one of which is stuck in the rear of my ARC preamp. There is a small are that you are supposed to push down on that releases a pin of sorts on the inside so you can then slide the cable out. Problem is that the small area you push down won't push down. Pushed on it gently with a screw driver but no luck. Thought about attacking it from the inside but ARC design has all the RCAs and XLR inputs/outputs on a single board butted right up against the inside of the rear panel of the preamp. I have a call into ARC to find out how to go about moving this board back a bit, once the connections are loosened to see if there is a way to "see" it from than point but I would rather not monkey with my pristine preamp.

If I pull the cable gently away from the preamp, the pin won't go down. If I push it gently towards the rear panel to the point it won't go any more, the pin still won't go down....

Any ideas as to how to apply pressure on the cable "pin" to force the pin downwards?

thanks in advance - all opinions welcome

I was gonna suggest "throw cold water on them"...like with dogs, you know?

Glad you got it resolved without extreme measures! 8)

I found that some times this happens with XLR connectors. Try pushing the connector in towards the RCA jack, then depressing on the lever that disengages the connector.  Don't try pulling the connector out while depressing the lever.

If that doesn't work, then I dont' know.

Get a bigger hammer? :duh: 8)

To make things clear, are you having problem with input or output?

Looks like a small screw driver can be used to pick on the lock pins.

Can you loosen screws and slide back the XLR barrel on the cable?  That should get you access to the release pin from the connector side.

Levi

Those XLR Neutrik connectors are normally soldered to the board.  Be careful.

If push comes to shove, I think the wire costs less than the unit?

Actually, if the reason is because the "locking" mechanism is not releasing, it's probably a fix to open the top and depress the mechanism from the inside, on the XLR JACK.

Delta Wave

Try unscrewing the strain relief for the XLR cable and then carefully sliding back the external, then the internal strain relief and the connector should pop right out of of the XLR barrel housing. The housing should then just fall or pull right out of the preamp. They're very simple and you shouldn't damage anything if you're gentle.
