I have never really considered myself a
huge fan of music videos and have often contemplated if at the majority of times, that they somewhat detract the message of, or the enjoyment of music. Could this be due to another individual's interpretation, perhaps a director/producer of the video for the bands music? Does the video format leave less for the imagination? When I listen to music in front of my gear, it is of a deeply personal experience in that I am in seclusion with my emotions and the music I enjoy.
Understanding that I may be treading on a somewhat slippery slope, but when your audio equipment achieves a certain level of performance - do you require an additional sensory stimulation to further enhance your music experience?
Having said all of this, it is time for an about turn in that they are a few music videos that I do enjoy. "In der Palästra" is certainly one of them and the performance of Anna-Varney (SOPOR AETERNUS & THE ENSEMBLE OF SHADOWS) is simply intoxicating - she allows us a small glance into her soul and to feel some of her pain.
SOPOR AETERNUS & THE ENSEMBLE OF SHADOWS for the song ~In der Palästra~http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwsJlUdklmkAnother band's videos that I enjoy are by TOOL.
TOOL ~Parabola~http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTBn-moPyMI&feature=related I can deeply relate to the previous videos I have mentioned above and believe that when these videos were conceived - they matched the ambience of the music perfectly. Perhaps more importantly, the videos are a conglomeration of my emotions with respect to this music or simply of, my general outlook on life.
Music videos - what say you?
I have experienced a few problems with adding links over this past week, if the videos do not match my title, can someone let me know - Thanks.
Be well...
