Proton D540 as preamp. for the AKSA 100 Amp.

Hi Guy's

I'm about to join the AKSA 55/100 owners-club (I’m not sure which one it will be yet), but to keep the cost down (and the lady of house happy  :nono: ) I’ll use my Proton D540 as preamp. The D540 is a integrated amplifier, but the preamp and power amp can be separated very simple, just by pulling two short circuit’s on the back of the D540.

Do any of you know about any issues regarding the uses of the Proton D540 for preamp for an AKSA amplifier?

Best regards, Kent

Hi Kent,

Do you know the preamp gain for your Proton? If it is 12db then you will need to be very gental with the volume control as AKSA amps are high gain. Other then that, I don't think you will ave problem.

Hi Kent,

Imho, the preamp sections of many mid-priced integrateds are their weak links, so using the preamp of the Proton would not be maximising on the potential of the ASKA. It will work, but you will probably get better results by just using a passive volume control. Further up the $$ range would be TLP and GK-1. I use an attenuator with a battery-powered buffer. I feel all these options will sound much better than the preamp sections of most NADs, Rotels, and probably your Proton.

Enjoy!

Hi

Thanks for your response.

I just got my hands on a used NLE11/12 :D , and I'll upgrade it to NLE11/19 8) . When the upgrade is done, I'll use the NLE11/12 as preamp. for the AKSE 55. So the Proton will not be used

NLE 11 = attenuator
NLE 19 = line buffer, 2 cha.

The NLE 19 have selectable gain 0, 6 or 12dB. What would you recommend for gain 0, 6 or 12 dB :?:  :?: ?

Note : I have a Corcom 10VK6 filter, which I'll put in front of the complete setup (amp, preamp. and CD).

CD player : Arcam Alpha One, will be upgraded with LC Audio LClock.
