Ok, this isn't audio related, but thought yall may know something about this.

We got 4 new tires on our van today.  They had quoted us Yokohama tires and when I got home and looked at the tires they were Nexen tires.  Both cost in the same price range and have the same mileage rating.  I have never heard of Nexen.  How do they compare to Yokohama?

TBH, both are probably chinese & yoko's aren't known for being excellent (like Bstone, Michelin, etc).  I'd definitely go back to the shop though & do a little research online tonight.  Tirerack.com has tons of good tire info. 

I recently bought a set of Yokohama Advan S tires for our company car/sedan.  They fit our budget & had good ratings online. 


EDIT:  I'd definitely take back the nexens.  They are where yokohama was 10+ yrs ago.  crapola is my best guess.

i've always been sensitive about good tire choices.  They are the only thing on your car that makes contact with the road.

My recommendation would be to get some good cream and rub some on your anus. It will help to sooth the pain. 

I like Yokohama, they're a 'B' brand, but they're decent for what you pay.
Nexus is shit. They're a 'C' brand and they are crap. Period. You got boofed in the ol bunghole buddy.

Plaza Tire Service did that to me a few years ago.  They gave me Uniroyals instead of Firestones.  I was unhappy about the switch and made them put the tires I ordered on right after they put the Uniroyals on. 

I certainly would not put any Chinese tires on my car, some studies have shown that braking distances and cornering grip were much worse than their domestic manufactured counterparts.

i grew up there, it never had car stealerships until belleville fell apart.

I use NTB by the mall, others have had good service at Firestone, on the other side of the mall.

yoko's aren't known for being excellent (like Bstone, Michelin, etc). 

I know I'm sortof tirading a circle that I don't frequent, but ... you're on drugs asserting outdated information.

They've been amazing for like 20 years. But they'd give up tread-life for performance (so you'd get higher performance but they wouldn't last as long.)

Michelin used to be on top a lot from having advanced silicone compounds (to go with good R&D) where they'd get good performance and good tread-life. Now every top tier brand has that. Yokos Avid Envigor has probably been the top passenger car tire for two or three years, replacing Michelin's Pilot Exalto.

One might find comparability in the top of Nexen's line vs the low end of Yokos, but I'd consider the whole affair a total bait and switch. -- Notice in the bait and switch they never seem to offer you a 1971 Volkswagen but 'accidentally' give you a Hennessey Venom GT. It's always the other way around.

I went there this morning.  Told them they put the wrong tires on the van.  They stated that their quote for the Yokohama tires were for 15" tires and my van takes 16".  They then substituted the Nexen tires.  They said they weren't sure what to do about the situation.  I stated that there are two ways I would feel the situation resolved.  1.  Remove the Nexen's and put on the Yokohama's and I will pay the difference between the Nexen's and the Yoko's and no other costs.  2.  Remove the Nex's and put my original tires back on, they are in the back of the van, and pay back all my money.  After 5 minutes of talking with the service manager they agreed to option 1.  Tomorrow we take it back in for the Yoko's.  I am going to make sure the tires are new, not retreads or whatever.  Hopefully they won't try and charge me labor and all the other crap they normally charge.

For you inconvenience....they should man up and absorb the difference in cost between the two brands.
Making two trips there (gas money) and having to spend the time waiting to have four tires mounted and balanced should about make it even. The difference isn't that big.

That's stupid. Plain and simple. These guys must be new, or mentally handicapped. Anybody that's been doing this long at all knows just be honest and it'll make everybody's lives easier in the long run. Take your lumps as they come along, get over it, and move on. It's much easier than bullshitting someone.

Dropped it off this morning.  They confirmed that out of pocket expenses would total $16.  That the Yoko's would be as originally quoted.  My wife picked it up when they were done and texted me that the Yoko's were in fact on there and that she only had to pay the difference of $16.  I am very satisfied so far with how things have turned out and that Newbold stuck to their original quote.  This could have went much much worse.  Amen?  The 2 main errors were the substitution of the tires and both times not calling to say they were done.  So now I am happy somewhat again and my ire has been quelled.

I'm glad things worked out. Although I think it's pretty petty they charged you the $16.

-1 to all the comments that say Yokohama are second rate or "B" tires. That's just not so. Yokohama takes tire development very seriously, and like all tire companies that are worth a damn, they go racing, and they do a pretty good job of it. Yokohama makes first class tires, across the board.

I've had Yokohamas on my M3 and on my MINI (Advan Neovas). Their performance was every bit as good as Michelin,  Bridgestone and Dunlop (which I have also had).

When I replace the summer tires on my Subaru STi it will be a toss up between Michelin Pilot Super Sport, Bridgestone Potenza RE050, and Yokohama Advan Neova A08. These three are all about equal.

Personally, when I pick a tire, if the manufacturer isn't racing then they really don't have a grip on tire development like the ones that do.

The only issue I've had over the years with Yoko is their life expectancy. From a merchants standpoint, the average car (at the time I was selling tires) was using the 'Avid' model Yoko. They were a fraction the price of a Michelin, but only lasted 25,000 miles where a Michelin was lasting 45k - 55k miles. Having customers chew your ass because their tires cost $____ and only lasted them a year got old quick. Maybe they've changed? I do like the Geolander models for the trucks though, those were cool. But it's been years since I've dealt with Yoko, so I'm talking from old experience.

With the tires I buy, none last longer than 20-25K anyway. The ones I mentioned are extreme performance summer. I buy tires for safety and handling, not for longevity. Tires make the car. I don't skimp on them. If you buy a tire that lasts 45-50K you are compromising to save money, but you are not getting what is optimal.

Even more fun with the van...my wife normally drives it...she has lost the two front hubcaps at two different times...Toyota wants $89 per OEM hubcap...online they want $60 for OEM re-manufactured and $25 for aftermarket...or $30 for OEM reman on ebay.  I found four CCI OEM reman for $20 still in the box at Goodwill.  That is a $220 savings.  They were the correct style and size.  Now a have two spare ones!
