There is a deal for The Audiophile Voice over on The Turner Information Center WEB site that allows you to subscribe for:

1 year: $16 (USA)
2 years: $32 (USA)

1) Is this a good magazine to subscribe to?
2) If not what/which one(s) are?

I was a subscriber many years ago to Stereophile and another one that exscapes my aging mind and would like to start one up again.

Thanks...

Brad

When Listener went under, they assigned their remaining subscriptions to the Audiophile Voice.

The equipment reviews are sparse and poorly written.

The music reviews aren't bad, but I will not be continuing my subscription once it runs out.

I really miss Listener though

Bound for Sound, published and authored by Martin DeWulf is an interesting alternative. It is printed in newsletter form, and accepts no advertising - depending soley on subsription fees.

I only read it a few times but I found UHF magazine out of Canada to be fairly good myself. I have read the other glossies from time to time and they are all drivel imho. Shamelessly biased reviews etc.

I agree with Brad as well.  TAV is not a good mag.  It's so thin that you can read it in about 15 min.  Most of the equipment they review I'm either not interested in or has already been reviewed by the other mags.  The equip reviews are not insightful; they read like a synopsis of the Stereophile review.  I will not renew when my subscription ends.
Now that Listener is gone, I would have to say that The Absolute Sound is the most interesting audio mag.  Their reviews are more honest and staight forward than Stereophile.  Stereophile mostly reviews equipment from manufactures who advertise heavily in their rag.  They have also morfed into the old Stereo Review mag where "everything sounds great".  When was the last time you read a negative review in Stereophile?
Skip TAV and go with TAS.

Brad,
Actually, TAV (Gene Pitts) paid for the privilege of fulfilling Listener's subs.
Stereophile was approached but felt the subscribers list overlapped their own so much that it wouldn't be worth it. TAV offered a full refund to anyone who asked for it.  I tried a couple issues, decided it wasn't for me and asked for the refund, expecting a prorated one, but I received my full $24 back.  Gene Pitts seems like quite a nice guy and I wish him well, but the mag just isn't up to Absolute Sound or Stereophile standards.

I have read nothing but good things about Listener magazine.  What was their problem?  Why did they fold?  I understand they were heavily into music reviews????

I have let all my subscriptions run out as I find much of the info I need on the net.  Especially HT things.  I would like to try a mag that was heavy into music reviews (more jazz, blues, classical.  Less pop, rock...you know the snob genres).  Suggestions?
