could BDP-1 be made to do this?
« on: 7 Aug 2012, 06:12 am »
Hi,

Experimenting with the Dlna/upnp settings in the latest beta-firmware, I hooked up a hdd to my NA7004, hoping the BDP1 would find it as a Dlna server and play them over the BDP1.

I picked up the Marantz app on the iPhone and saw the HDD in the USB-input. Could play everything on it with the push of a button. No indexing or updating necessary. Instantly.

Considering the fact that there are more than 300 cd's on it, the convenience of being able to immediately plug and play, instead of waiting for the updating on the BDP1 after pluggin in a usb source, is very nice.

That could really make switching-hdd;s-as-you-like an option for the BDP1, which right now is not very comfy because of the constant updating when switching usb-sources.

Could it be possible to have a usb-input made capable of doing this on the BDP1? Would certainly welcome the extra versatility.

Thanks,
Marius

Hi Marius,

Recent software packages included in the latest beta builds could make this possible, the problem is you would be limited to one of our web gui's as apps like mPad rely on the fact that the BDP is using MPD.  MPD is responsible for the need to create a database of audio files, the benefits though are you get a database that can be used to control playback from other devices.

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

It was a real super convenient experience, and if time comes, I think it would be worth the effort of trying to make it possible. Not to replace MPD of course, just to add it to the options. I was hoping maybe 1 of the front usb inputs could be made available for this?
Dl'ing the marantz app is probably useless without the na7004, but you see that an app like that works very fine indeed. I'd be happy to try and give you some screenshots if you want. (think there is a demo-setting too)
