Hi Res streaming question
« on: 13 Feb 2012, 02:06 pm »
Just tried some Hi Res tracks this weekend for the first time.  Sounds great with the following:

Laptop with 24/96 flac tracks from Hdtracks (via mediamonkey)
USB out to Musical Fidelity V-Link (USB to spdif conversion)
V-Link to Vision DAC (in preamp combo)
Ultravalve
Songtowers (standard)

Question - Can I get rid of the V-Link by using a Squeezebox touch?  If so, will it sound as good?
Thanks for helping a newbie.

You certainly can stream them to the Touch, then digital out to the DAC, but I think the differences may just be personal preference...so try it.

Also, there are free reversible software mods that can be done to the Touch to get better sound. These mods turn off unused functions and ports.

Also, it seems that the switching power supply to the Touch is relatively clean and all you have to do is plug it into a far removed socket, as far away from the amp as feasible.

You might also consider something like the JKSPDIF.
