Pre-amp/power amp?
« on: 4 Feb 2012, 10:14 pm »
Has anyone used the Quad 99 preamp/909 Power amp combo with PMC speakers?  I can't afford a Bryston BP16/3Bsst or 4Bsst combo. The quad combo may give me more than my Esoteric AI-10 integrated amp?

Hi, had the 99/909 driving Dynaudio Focus 110 and it was a great combo. I upgraded to BP26/4BSST2 after a year plus and it was a big gain. Recently I upgraded to Ref5SE but I still retain the 4BSST2 as the combo is amazingly refine with good control.

I doubt it Bryston will ever go wrong particularly with PMC.  :)

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply. I would like to go with Bryston seperates as I have the BCD-1 cd player but I don't have the budget right now. I would like to go back to seperates and the size and the specs of the Quad is appealing. I guess what I'm wondering is if this is a step in the right direction in performance over the Esoteric AI-10 integrated amp?
