Still have young kids?
« on: 18 Jan 2012, 02:44 am »
As I sit to give our daughter her bottle I turn on my system to Nick Jr so she can look at it and fall asleep.  I usually take her into the Media room to get away from every one else.  Any way the reason for the topic, I noticed as I watched a couple of the programs with her that they had great sounding background music and the sound quality was really pretty good, even for not HD.  The two that stick out in my mind is Little Bill, the show has Jazz soundtrack music and the other day Little Bill's grandmother, Alice The Great, was seeing Clark Terry, they took little Bill to the park.  The Clark Terry character was himself, I thought that was cool to introduce kids to a Jazz artist.  And then there is Blues Clues where in the background, or, to accentuate dialog they use a lot of acoustic bass.  So any one else pick up on this or are the kids shows beyond your radar? :)

My son is 4 years old. He loves to watch and play little einstein on pbs kids. So I often play some classical and acoustic jazz and ask my son to identify the sound and the name of the instrument which are playing in the song. He seems to enjoy this game very much. Now, he is able to distinguished between the piano sound that create by the keyboard to the real piano sound. Isn't this hoppy turn out fun?

Little bill is a Bill Cosby produced show, and he has been a long time advocate of jazz...  always trying to introduce new audiences to the music, at least as long as I can remember.  I have watched the show, though not through the stereo system.  (Very cool about Clark Terry)  I like it, but my wife doesn't...  my 2 year old daughter?  She could take it or leave it.  She likes Wow, Wow, Wubzy! best...  also quite a bit of music involved in that show, though it tends more toward pop.

Check out Yo, Gabba, Gabba if you haven't already.  Very hip, and all about music.

The Little Einstein CDs have great sound quality, music seems to be performed by some Russian orchestra that I am not familiar with (not that I would be)...  but crystal clear and clean recordings.  :thumb:

My girls are 6 and 8 now, but have grown up around music, and kids shows at times.

Agree with those already identified, and "enjoyed" 4 Square too for the rhythmic content.

Fav songs so far are Pink Floyd The Wall, and Bob Marley Buffalo Soldier.  Of course now they love modern pop when I play it in the car, so I am sure they will round out their interests in time.

Yup - mine can't remember many words to the songs - but has the melody down pat - just like Dad.

Funny how genetics works.  You can no longer deny your 'quirks' when they're staring you back in the face

Oh yeah, Yo Gabba Gabba, know it oh too well.  I like seeing who will appear on the show, sort of like Sesame Street, you never know who will pop up.  I think my kids have played the Jack Black, and the Weezer episodes about a million times.

My oldest (4 YO) is fickle.  She went through Caillou and Thomas the Train and Curious George and Blue's Clues to Dinosaur Train to Word World to Dora and now watches Team Umizoomi and Ni Hao, Kai-lan.  Not sure I've ever listened to the music.  For me, the best programs are Dinosaur Train (gotta love words like cretoxyrhina and deinonychus") (science-based), Word World (word-based) and Team Umizoomi (math-based).  I know Dinosaur Train had an homage to Elvis, but the singer wasn't great.
