PS Vane KT 88's
« on: 6 Feb 2012, 05:42 pm »
Anyone tried these at all, Im currently using their 12au7's and 12ax7's in my Eastern Electric M88 valve amp. My KT88's are Golden Lions but was wondering if the PS Vanes would make much difference

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

I have not tried them. But I recently picked up an M88. How do you like the Psvanes for the 12AU7 and 12AX7 vs the tubes that it came with? And how do you like the Gold Lions for the KT88s?

Got the Psvanes. They replaced KT88 treasures and prior to that Pentas and gold lions. There's just no comparison. If I had to really quantify what I'm hearing I would say the Psvanes just have confidence to sound amazing where as the treasures sound awesome, but polite and demur. in either case the treasures and the Psvanes beat the pants off of the GLs or anything else for that matter.

Interesting to read, can you expand a bit Pez.

I've got some KT88 treasures which have been pretty darn good.  My experience with Psvanes has been primarily negative though.  I hated their 845-T and wasn't wild for their 12au7 or 12ax7.  In fact, i turned a couple Psavane 845 owners onto 845B and they never looked back.

Tipped up tonal balance, less body, more resolution, strident, less emotion.

Boy, having never heard any of those other tubes it is hard for me to understand where you're coming from. I have some 12at7 Psvanes that were way better than the NOS Mullards I had and some amperex. Any way the Psvane KT88s sound bigger and bolder than the treasures. More full and a level of detail that is just not there with the treasures. There's a certain ease if presentation that the treasures have, but the Psvanes do it better with more confidence.

I love em. I have a very tunable system and found that the Psvanes Kt88s sounded so clean and nice that I ended up turning the midrange and tweeters up a dB or two because there was just no nastiness or blemishes that made me cringe. The treasures are clean sounding but not as nice on te top end as the Psvanes.

I found the psvanes gave much more depth to the sound stage as did the golden lions, the gl's also widened the soundstage and made it much more fuller and rounded

Im still going to try the psvane KT 88's though!
