maple block platform--Dawns Depot Ebay and Herbies

A short while ago when I got back into vinyl and looking for a stout heavy platform for my TT I ordered a 24 X 18 X 3 in maple butcher block for these people and am very pleased with the product.  The platforms sell for $109.00 and I did not pay shipping at the time.  Thought I would pass this along, the maple shefl and the herbies big feet under the table have worked wonders for isolation.  I did get the Herbies platter mat as well for my SP-25, that makes a big difference rather than the hard rubber mat.

I have one of Dawn's maple blocks, 27# very nice, no handle slots, super price, no shipping $$.
I have Herbie's Gabon ebony dome 1/2 x1" under it and those are sitting in Iso-cups. You can use Herbie's "Tenderfeet" too or spikes or cork or......

BTW, this is on a glass rack, Ya gotta know what your doing.  8)

Tom,
Shoot Steve an e-mail and he can recommend what products will work best in your situation. You can also ask on his Circle here on AC.

Dawn's platforms are just maple butcher blocks (with routed in handle slots) that you can get from overstock.com. That's what I used to make my equipment rack.

I used one of Dawn's maple blocks under my sub. Spiked the block to the floor which raised the sub up about 3 inches. I liked what it did.

I use Dawn.  Her prices direct are good and like Decal I purchased a bunch through Overstock.com for $1 shipping and slightly lower price.  I own 10 of them!

I was told by another forum member that glass shelves are not, the ticket, for high quality sound reproduction. Might cost a little money, but replacing the glass shelves on my equipment with her 1.75 inch thick stuff might be nice. Real nice.

She's good - I've bought 3 platforms from her.

One, a few years ago, she even cut in half for me as it more perfectly fit my tube mono-blocks that way (her nephew with wood cutting tools did it).   No extra charge for me - nice of her :thumb:

I've yet to find anything that worked better under a turntable than a thick slab of maple.  I've read that natural cut (not end grain) is better than end grain and air dried is better than non air dried (the 24 x 18" end grain pieces that I have are both of these), but I simply haven't the time or inclination to fiddle further.

Every turntable I have now or in the future goes on a maple, end grain unit from Dawn's Depot....the effects are in most ways better than any equivalent upgrade of $100 in new cartridge, phono unit, interconnects or 'better' turntable.  I urge anyone that has a burning desire to spend $100 to improve your vinyl experience, to try one of these maple blocks under your TT.  Frankly, the first time I used one I was blown away by the positive effect of it - I never thought that it would so throughly trounce granite, marble, slate, mdf, oak and the myriad of other things I propped my table up on over the years trying to improve the experience.

Whatever intrinsic feature of maple is...it's tailor made for audio use  8)

FWIW, she also does custom sizes without the handles slots. I ordered two.
