WC, we both guessed correctly, it is the second. I managed to have a conversation with the speaker designer, the person who designed these at CJ years ago, he explained to me how all the RCA terminals should work on the active crossover. He also mentioned that the 10" woofer drivers that he used in the sub were custom made to spec for his design and not purchase off the shelf, basically non-replaceable, so I don't know if it's good or bad. In any case, I feel lucky and honored to have this monster box in my house.
Now I'll proceed with the installation, hopefully will get them to produce some music in the next couple of days.
