Just saw Pearl Jam Twenty - Very, Very Cool
« on: 23 Oct 2011, 12:02 am »
Just watched this on PBS and want to say that it is a MUST WATCH for any Pearl Jam fan.  As a 40 year old who was in college when Pearl Jam hit, it really took me back from band, music, and era standpoints.

The footage, music, interviews, etc...are excellent from both an informational and entertainment aspect.

I can't wait for the Blu-ray to come out.

Check out your local PBS station to try and see it for free.

I saw it too, George. I was also fortunate enough to see them on the PJ20 tour last month - fantastic!

Pearl Jam - America's greatest active band. Or not...

I am kicking myself for not seeing them in the last 10 years.  When they come back to the US, I will definitely catch them.

As you note George, very well done show. I stumbled into it last night. Having just moved to the Seattle area in '82, while not of 'my generation', it was interesting to see their early development. I enjoy a good bit of their work. For sure if you are a fan it's a must see.

Saw it last night too, it was riveting. Great job by Cameron Crowe, 2 hours long and never a dull moment. Just picked up the double live cd a few weeks ago, it's excellent.

I watched it last night also. It reminded me of how much I liked these guys and how much I admired Mike McCready's guitar playing. He is one of my favorites. Great band!

Mike McCready is one of the finest lead guitar players of our generation. Saw them a few times, but once here at Key Arena in Seattle, he played a long solo that was just... beyond. An absolute master.

And yes, saw the film. The MotherLoveBone stuff brought a tear. Their music was great, the album is a blurred mix of heady memories for me.

I agree, but have to say that Motherlovebone would never have achieved the level of success of Pearl Jam.  Andrew Wood was a talented singer but not in the same  league as Eddie Vedder.  It's sad that Andrew never lived to see the fame his bandmates would go on to achieve.

McCready never gets his props as a guitarist but there is no better in his genre of music.  Also, I'm a huge fan of their original drummer, Dave Krusen, but it's impossible to top Dave Abbruzzese, especially live.  I'm not usually a fan of this much "brass" but Dave A, is a machine.  Check out this overhead video of Dave in '92 playing with a nasty case of carpel tunnel in his right wrist.  Love the single bass drum and crazy-fast right foot Dave demonstrates in the vid.

Love drummers who beat the skins hard!  Matt Cameron is a good drummer but Dave is in another league.  Maybe they wanted less focus on "big" drum sounds.

I think he was better looking than everyone else and the ego's couldn't take it. There's a lot I hate about Pearl Jam, Eddie's singing gets on my nerves too. I do have most of their albi.s though. Yield and Binaural are favs.

I don't know about the band politics but that guy was a monster on the drums. I love the sime kit and funky style. Eddy's voice is distinctive or it least it was before so many guys started copying it.

My favorite album is still Ten. Have them all, except the last two.  Favorites have changed through the years but Ten is the only one I still listen to!

Cheers
